Justin Timberlake is the latest target of a celebrity “swatting” prank, in which someone alerts law enforcement to a bogus emergency.
According to TMZ, police visited the singer’s Los Angeles residence on Friday after receiving a 911 call claiming there had been shots fired and other violent threats.
However, it appears there is NO actual emergency at the home, just as there wasn’t on Thursday, when Rihanna’s house was targeted, or on Wednesday, when pranksters went after Diddy.
While it’s obviously good news that no one was actually hurt or killed, it’s unfortunate that these “swatting” pranks have become so common in Hollywood, as they divert law enforcement personnel and resources from real crimes.
The minor who “swatted” Ashton Kutcher and Justin Bieber last year was eventually apprehended.
