Rihanna is the latest target of a celebrity “swatting” prank, in which someone alerts law enforcement to a bogus emergency.
According to TMZ, police raced to the performer’s Los Angeles house on Thursday after receiving a 911 call claiming two armed men were at the residence, and that someone had been shot.
But there was no actual emergency, just as there wasn’t on Wednesday, when Diddy’s home was “swatted.”
While it’s obviously good news that no one was actually hurt or killed, it’s unfortunate that these “swatting” pranks have become so common in Hollywood, as they divert law enforcement personnel and resources from real crimes.
The minor who “swatted” Ashton Kutcher and Justin Bieber last year was eventually apprehended.
Tom Cruise has also been victimized, as was Chris Brown.
