FX Developing ‘Conquistadors’ Limited Series

FX has added another limited series to its development roster.

The cable network is developing Conquistadors, an event series based on the Kim MacQuarrie book Last Days of the Incas, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

The drama tells the story of Francisco Pizarro and Diego de Almagro, two Spanish Conquistadors who above all odds conquered the Incan empire of 10 million with just 168 men, and Manco Inca and Cura Occlo, two teenage Incan royal lovers, who led one of the greatest rebellions in history.

Nicholas Osborne is writing and executive producing the drama alongside Scott Rosenbaum, who is currently an EP on Fox's Gang Related pilot. Underground Films' Trevor Engelson -- Osborne's former producing partner -- will executive produce for the company.

Conquistadors marks FX's latest addition to its rapidly growing roster of event series. In addition to the already greenlit 10-episode Fargo adaptation, the network also is developing five other event series. Mayflower, from Paul GiamattiGrand Hotel, from Sam MendesMad Dogs, based on the British series and adapted by Shawn Ryan; Sutton, based on J.R. Moeringher's novel and adapted by Alexander Payne; and Stephen Gaghan's six-part Vietnam War entry They Marched Into Sunlight.

The array of limited series comes as FX has found success with anthology installment American Horror Story, which will reboot itself for the third time with a new cast and story, and as the network is bulking up as it prepares to launch upstart network FXX.

Osborne is repped by CAA and Underground.
