Nate Berkus to Host Home Makeover Show for NBC

NBC is getting into the home makeover business.

The network on Monday ordered to series Renovation Nation, a 10-episode makeover competition series hosted by interior and product designer Nate Berkus.

The series will feature home builders and designers competing for a cash prize, with voting to determine the final winner and two viewers ultimately awarded dream homes.

The series will feature designers and renovators from across the country, with Berkus hosting, judging, advocating and mentoring contestants every week.

The series will travel across the country with two teams tackling two new homes each week and concluding in a live finale.

“We are delighted to work with the incredibly talented Nate Berkus, whose expertise, creativity and passion for design are unparalleled in scope,” NBC alternative and late-night programming president Paul Telegdy said. “We believe we are in a time where Americans want to feel empowered and inspired to make changes to their homes; changes that will not only increase their value and quality of life but at the same time - not break the bank.  Our goal is to showcase incredibly diverse architecture, impeccable design and epic transformations unlike anything you’ve seen before.”

The series hails from Universal Television, with Craig Plestis (Minute to Win It), Tom Shelly (Survivor) and Berkus on board to executive produce. Casting and a formal premiere date will be announced later.

For Oprah Winfrey protégé Berkus, the series comes after his Sony Pictures Television-produced syndicated talk show ended its run after two low-rated seasons.

Renovation Nation comes as NBC is looking to rebuild its fortunes this season. The network, powered by football and The Voice, started the season in first place but has fallen to fifth with its singing competition on hiatus.
