Gary Carter has died.
The Hall of Fame baseball player was 57.
The cause of death was brain cancer.
Carter was first diagnosed with tumors last May; new tumors were revealed last month.
Known as “Kid” for his exuberant play, the 11-time All-Star catcher played mostly for the Montreal Expos and New York Mets, with whom he won the 1986 World Series.
He retired in 1992 and was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2003.
His daughter, Kimmy Bloemers, announced his death in a statement on Thursday, writing, ”I am deeply saddened to tell you all that my precious dad went to be with Jesus today at 4:10 p.m. This is the most difficult thing I have ever had to write in my entire life but I wanted you all to know.”
