British police have released surveillance footage of a speeding car striking a woman and her 3-year-old nephew in order to track down the driver. Miraculously, the pair only suffered minor injuries.
PC Abbi Jones of the West Midlands Police Traffic Unit told press that the tape of the Dec. 7 accident in Coventry, UK had been released in a bid to track down the driver and the car.
"This is a shocking piece of CCTV footage which captures a truly shocking incident," she said in a statement to the media.
"We have taken the unusual step of releasing the images - which carries a warning for viewers - in the hope that someone will recognise the car and come forward with information so that we can trace the driver."
Jones confirmed that the two hit-and-run victims, a 42-year-old driving instructor and her three-year-old nephew, escaped with only minor injuries. "This could have been so much worse," she said. "At the time of the collision, the driver would not have known that the woman and child were uninjured."
Police ask that anyone with information on the car, a Black Audi with a partial registration plate "EN57," contact PC Jones at the West Midlands Police Station.
