TV Ratings: ‘Community’ Grows in Return Against Surging ‘Big Bang’

The Big Bang Theory jumped 13 percent (seven tenths of a point) from last week, easily topping Thursday night's broadcasts with a 6.1 rating among adults 18-49. CBS saw further growth with Two and a Half Men, up three two tenths of a point to a 4.1 adults rating. Person of Interest (3.2 adults) was steady, followed by a slightly boosted Elementary, up one tenth of a point to a 2.3 rating in the demo. CBS topped the other nets with a 3.5 adults rating and 14.2 million viewers.

American Idol was down four tenths of a point from last Thursday on Fox. The one-hour episode averaged a 4.1 rating with adults 18-49 before Glee (2.2 adults) saw a tenth of a point bump from last week. Fox averaged a 3.1 rating with 18-49-ers and 9.6 million viewers.

An encore of Shark Tank led into a new Grey's Anatomy (3.1 adults) on ABC. The drama was up three tenths of a point. Scandal (2.8 adults) was also up a tenth of a point, winning 10 p.m. and tying its series high. The network averaged a 2.4 adults rating and 7.2 million viewers.

Community fared well in its return to NBC. The long-delayed season premiere pulled a 1.8 rating with adults 18-49, up a tenth of a point from the previous opener and topping its last original by 38 percent. The lead helped drive Parks and Recreation up 18 percent (three tenths of a point) to a 2.0 rating among adults 18-49, a new season high. The Office (2.1 adults) was flat with last week, while 1600 Penn (1.1 adults) dropped two tenths from its last original. At 10 p.m., Do No Harm fizzled even more in its second episode. It was down two tenths of a point, pulling a meager 0.7 rating in the key demo. NBC averaged a 1.4 rating with adults 18-49 and 3.2 million viewers.

The Vampire Diaries (1.1 adults) was down two tenths from last week on the CW, and Beauty and the Beast (0.6 adults) was down by only one tenth. The network averaged a 0.8 adults rating and 2 million viewers.

Univision averaged a 1.7 rating with adults 18-49 and 4 million viewers.
