Chris Pine has just been sued by his former talent agency.
SDB Partners, which represented the Star Trek star for nine years (until this past November), claims in court papers filed today that Pine owes its agency millions of dollars in unpaid commissions.
According to the lawsuit, “Nobody was willing to touch Pine” until SDB began to rep him back in 2002, and secured him the role of Captain Kirk in Star Trek and its sequels; a series of new “Jack Ryan” films, and This Means War, which opens on Friday.
SDB alleges Pine hasn’t forked over the agreed-upon 10 percent commission for Star Trek and more than two dozen other projects, including the film Unstoppable for which he was paid $3 million.
“Through this lawsuit, SDB seeks to not only recover its commissions on millions of dollars that Pine has already earned, but also the millions of dollars that Pine will continue to earn as a result of SDB’s prior hard work and dedication to Pine’s career,” reads the suit, which was first obtained by THR.
Should the three “Jack Ryan” films be made, for example, Pine would earn well over $24 million.
To bolster its argument, SDB included a letter Pine sent to the agency on November 11, 2011, in which he announced he wanted to part ways.
The actor informed SDB’s principals, ”I have decided that it is best for me to leave,” noting, “I owe much of the success in my career to all of you… Please know that I recognize what great advocates you have been for me and that you have invested your time and energy into building my career.”
Gossip Cop has reached out to a rep for Pine, but has yet to hear back.
