Girls returns for his second season on Sunday, and with it a new cast of male love interests for Lena Dunham's hapless-in-love, aspiring author Hannah Horvath.

Tension alert: episode one sees Hannah dating a handsome black Republican named Sandy, played by Donald Glover, whose political beliefs run counter to her more liberal worldview.

Which begs the question: Has Dunham herself ever dated a Republican?

"Actually, you know what, I dating someone who claimed to be a fiscal Republican. I don't know what that means really," confessed Dunham, adding: "I didn't respect it and our relationship didn't last very long."

STORY: The Rise of Lena Dunham

On the political front, she voted -- and campaigned -- for President Obama in 2012; on the romantic front, she dates musician Jack Antonoff of the "We Are Young" band fun. (They look pretty cozy here.)

All eyes were on the It Girl on Wednesday night at HBO and Cinema Society's premiere of Girls season two at NYU Skirball Center in New York City. Wearing a strapless black jumpsuit, the 26-year-old creator-writer-actress posed for photos alongside co-stars Allison Williams, Jemima Kirke and Zosia Mamet. Also in attendance: Girls EP Jenni Konner; Brian Williams (Allison's dad); William H. Macy and Felicity Huffman; Solange Knowles; Diane von Furstenberg and Gayle King, who hijacked a red carpet interview to tell Dunham how proud she was of her.

Many more boldfaced names stepped out to join Dunham for the screening and the after-party at Capitale.

Three days from now, even more eyeballs will be trained on her as she steps out of her limo to attend the 2013 Golden Globes, where she's nominated for best comedy actress and best comedy.

She hasn't written a speech -- yet.

"No, I find the idea of even being at the Golden Globes so crazy I can't even wrap my end around winning!"
