With the final installment of "The Twilight Saga" heading for DVD, this year is all about zombies, Casters and Shadow hunters. But fans of the franchise's friendly vampires shouldn't lose hope just yet. The on-screen supernatural creatures of 2013 appear to be just as easy to love. Here are five of the supernatural love stories we can't wait to see:
"Beautiful Creatures" is based on Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl's novel of the same name. Starring Alden Ehrenreich as 16-year-old mortal Ethan Wate and Alice Englert as Caster Lena Duchannes, the movie is due out on February 13. The two fall for each other despite their differences and a slew of supernatural obstacles.
Originally billed as "Jack and the Giant Killer," "Slayer" will hit theaters on March 1. Director Bryan Singer's take on the "Beanstalk" fairytale stars Nicholas Hoult, Stanley Tucci and Ewan McGregor. Though the film's trailer doesn't put much emphasis on the love story, Jack's mission to save Princess Isabelle (Eleanor Tomlinson) has got to count for something.
Saoirse Ronan and Max Irons star as Melanie Stryder and Jared Howe, respectively, in "The Host," which is due out on March 29. The film adaptation of Stephenie Meyer's sci-fi novel is about parasitic aliens called Souls who invade Earth and possess human minds. When Melanie becomes inhabited by a Soul named Wanderer, they set out in search of Howe.
"The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones," which is based on the first novel in Cassandra Clare's YA series, stars Lily Collins, Jamie Campbell Bower and Robert Sheehan. The trio's love triangle is just one facet of this supernatural tale about Shadow hunters and demons. The flick will bow on August 23.
