The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is currently expected to stay on top of the box office, fending off two big challengers.
Peter Jackson’s latest fantasy epic is projected to earn $32.5 million in its third weekend, enough to beat the new releases Django Unchained and Les Misérables, both of which are tracking toward roughly $28.5 million.
The family comedy Parental Guidance ($14.5 million) should eke out a fourth-place finish over Tom Cruise’s action-packed Jack Reacher ($13.5 million).
This Is 40 is expected to fill the $6 spot with about $11.5 million in earnings.
Historical drama Lincoln ($7 million) is in a tight race with the animated re-release Monsters Inc 3D ($6.5 million) and The Guilt Trip, Seth Rogen’s comic collaboration with Barbra Streisand ($6 million).
Rise of the Guardians should round out the Top 10 with $5.5 million.
