After breaking series (and network) records several times over the past three months, it shouldn't come as much of a surprise that both Homeland and Dexter did very well in Sunday's respective season finales.

Dexter, at a record for the series and the network, delivered 2.75 million viewers at 9 p.m. with the end of its seventh run. That's up 23 percent from last finale, 14 percent from the recent premiere and 115,000 viewers north of the previous record set just last week. Season-to-date, Dexter's gross viewership averaged 6.1 million across platforms -- with that number likely to grow when time-delayed figures are available for the entire season.
As for Homeland, the series approached its recent record with its 10 p.m. inaugural broadcast, delivering 2.3 million viewers. Though the number does come 50,000 viewers short of last week's episode, the series was at a record in viewers for the night with 2.7 million. The 10 p.m. episode was also up 32 percent from the season two premiere.
Homeland has averaged 5.9 million gross viewers across platforms, a 37 percent bump from the freshman season, and is only eclipsed by Dexter as the network's most-watched series.
