Discovery Channel Sets ‘Frozen Planet: Edge of the Earth’ Special (Exclusive)

Frozen Planet Owl Flight - H 2012

Discovery Channel is going back to Frozen Planet.

The cable network has set Frozen Planet: Edge of the Earth, an hourlong special featuring some of the best sequences from the 2011 documentary miniseries.

TV REVIEW: Frozen Planet

The special, like the Emmy-winning series, is a co-production between Discovery Channel and the BBC, will see David Attenborough return to narrate the refresher that will include 11 sequences including polar bears, penguins, wolf clubs, the great gray owl and more.

The seven-episode mini earned Emmys for nonfiction series, sound editing, picture editing and cinematography. It originally aired stateside in March, with Alec Baldwin narrating the first six installments and Attenborough voicing the seventh part, which focused on climate change.

The Hollywood Reporter's chief TV critic Tim Goodman called Frozen Planet "one of those instantly riveting series where you marvel at the beauty and majesty of it all but also spare more than a passing thought for the effort involved."

Frozen Planet: Edge of the Earth will air Saturday, Dec. 22 at 9 p.m.
