Adam Levine and his band Maroon 5 might be a big hit in today’s music world, but it turns out The Voice coach has been holding on to a bad experience from his early days of performing, back when the group members still were paying their dues.
On Monday’s episode of The Voice, the singer told the crowd that when his band was touring with Michelle Branch, they weren’t given a dressing room while performing at Hollywood club The Roxy.

“I remember we opened for her at the Roxy, and they didn't even give us a dressing room. I hate the Roxy. I'll never play there again,” he said, adding that the club “screwed us over, and now they're paying for it."
However, Roxy owner Nic Adler responded to Levine’s accusations by saying that the Roxy has no control over dressing-room decisions.
“If Michelle Branch is playing, it's Michelle Branch's show. And if her management says, 'I want Michelle in this dressing room, and I want her band in this other dressing room,' we're at the mercy of the headliner,” he told Yahoo. “For a band to think dressing rooms define how we treat bands is crazy."
Michelle Branch tells The Hollywood Reporter she doesn’t remember exactly how it all went down, but defended the Sunset Strip hotspot.
“I'm sure it wasn't the Roxy's fault,” says Branch. “Most likely my band was given one room and I was given the other per my contract” — though she seemed somewhat perplexed as to how the club still is "paying for it."

In an interesting twist, Branch tells THR that she knows the singer -- Cassadee Pope -- who sang her 2003 hit "Are You Happy Now” on Monday’s episode, sparking Levine’s trip down memory lane.
“I love Cassadee, and she was sort of brought to my attention via Twitter long before The Voice,” says Branch. “I knew she was a fan, and we talked about writing together.”
Pope, the former frontwoman of Hey Monday, has been having a strong run on The Voice as a member of Blake Shelton’s team. She held the No. 1 spot on iTunes one week earlier with her heartfelt rendition of Miranda Lambert’s "Over You," co-written by Shelton.
“I think it's great that she's getting such a positive response, and I think it goes to show that people still respond to that genre,” adds Branch. “Female pop/rock with songs that have heart; you don't have to make dance music to have an impact.”
The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on NBC.
