5 Wild Allegations Not To Freak Out About On Election Day

Every Election Day, there are a wave of claims of massive irregularities. Some of today's are legitimate — but none appear to represent large-scale fraud or voter suppression.

Reddit Voter Fraud Video

A video posted to Reddit Tuesday morning — now with nearly 4,000 up votes —allegedly shows a Pennsylvania voter unable to select Barack Obama on his electronic ballot. The Reddit user, "centralpavote," writes that he tried and failed several times to check off Obama's name. "I then called over a volunteer to have a look at it," he wrote. "She him hawed for a bit then calmly said 'It's nothing to worry about, everything will be OK.' and went back to what she was doing. I then recorded this video." A technologist at the Center for Democracy & Technology told Gawker that the video was "a concern but not because of fraud," he said. "We would recommend that poll workers would recalibrate the machine and everything would be fine."

Twitter Users Claiming They Voted More Than Once

Twitter Users Claiming They Voted More Than Once

The conservative aggregation site Twitchy has amassed a collection of tweets from voters claiming they cast more than one ballot. "I just voted. Three times actually. Love Illinois," writes one Twitter user. But another Twitter user featured in the list appears to be joking. "I voted three times," he writes, with a link to a picture of three "I Voted" stickers on his shirt. Twitchy is taking the claims seriously, though. "This is why Democrats are against requiring identification to vote," they wrote. "It’s not racist; it stops fraud."

Mitt Romney spokesman Ryan Williams tweeted a photo of an Obama mural painted on the wall of a polling location in Philadelphia's Ward 35. "Voters in Philly's Ward 35 are being forced to cast their ballots next to this #IllegalElectioneering," he tweeted. A judge later ordered the mural be hidden from sight or removed. When the wall was papered over with three posters, Williams was not satisfied. "This is the pathetic attempt to 'cover up' the Obama mural in Philly. Not good enough," he said.

GOP Election Officials Ejected from Polling Sites

The Associated Press reported claims by the Republican Party that dozens of "legally credentialed minority voting inspectors were removed from polling places in Philadelphia" — 75 election workers in total, according to GOP chairman Rob Gleason. The Washington Examiner wrote that on-site officials in 15 locations had been replaced by Democrats. The Republican Party of Pennsylvania has petitioned the Court to reinstate the poll workers.
