Tracy Morgan talks ‘Scare Tactics’

(EW) -- Syfy's hidden-camera scream fest "Scare Tactics" is back tonight with a marathon of seven new episodes starting at 7:30 p.m. ET. Though host Tracy Morgan doesn't like to single out any pranks as his favorite — he loves them all — he will say fans of the show won't want to miss his cameo in episode 2 (8 p.m. ET), when a young man on his first day in the office of a private security firm becomes the point person in talks with the kidnappers of famous client Tracy Morgan. We caught up with Morgan late last week:

Entertainment Weekly: How did you set the ransom at $3 million? I feel like you might be worth more.

Tracy Morgan: (Laughs) The writers did a great job. We wanted to make the stakes high, and that's what we did.

EW: I almost wish they'd have told the young man that you died, since he was warned your fate was in his hands.

Morgan: I don't know what the writers were thinkin', but I'm glad we didn't. We don't want to freak the kid out like THAT. He may be a big fan of Tracy Morgan, he don't want to see me die.

EW: The marathon is obviously timed well with Halloween. What are your Halloween plans?

Morgan: I'm gonna watch a bunch of "Scare Tactics." I'm gonna watch a bunch of scary movies. Late at night, I like to scare myself sometimes. I watch a lot of demonic stuff, "The Exorcist" and "Halloweens." And then I like to give out treats to the kids that come to my door. I remember how fun it was when I was a young kid. It makes you want to do it all over again.

EW: Do you trick out your house and try to scare the kids?

Morgan: No, no, no, no. I'm too lazy to do all that stuff. I go buy bags of candy, and that's it.

EW: Is there a scary movie you watched too young that scarred you for life?

Morgan: "The Exorcist." I watched "The Exorcist" on 42nd Street with my dad when people were smoking reefer in the theater. I was about 8 years old, and I got a contact [high]. So, I'm still spooked out about that. I don't know what possessed my dad to take me to see that. He wanted to see it, and I guess I was with him. I think it's the scariest movie ever made. They don't make movies like that anymore.

EW: Is there a movie you were surprised scared you as much as it did?

Morgan: "The Blair Witch Project." Because those guys were terrorized in the movie, and at the time, I thought it was real.

EW: Is there a scary movie you refuse to watch, that you just won't put yourself through?

Morgan: If I can watch "The Exorcist," I think I can watch anything. [Although] I don't really dig gory movies. Like, I won't watch the Saw series. I don't mind spooky stuff, but I don't like gory stuff.

EW: What scares you most about "30 Rock" coming to an end?

Morgan: Nothing scares me. We look back on it, and I feel great that we did a great seven years of television.

EW: Are we going to see Gov. Dunston again before the season ends?

Morgan: I couldn't tell you. I don't want to spoil it, and plus, I don't write the episodes... Hold on, I dropped my earpiece, and I have to pull over because I don't want to drive without it. Excuse me for one second.... Hello. Sorry, about that. Now, I can legally drive and talk at the same time.

EW: Do you anticipate getting political on Twitter as we get closer to Election Day?

Morgan: No. I don't even deal with politics. I just don't believe in them. I think politics are politricks. My whole thing is power to the people. I don't put my faith in any one man. I keep my faith in God. That's where I keep my faith.

EW: Last question: You're set to take part in Spike TV's all-star comedy special, "Eddie Murphy: One Night Only," airing Nov. 14. Any idea what you'll be doing?

Morgan: I haven't gotten the details. Eddie is an icon. He's one of the reason why I started doing comedy in the beginning, so to be able to honor my comedic hero, I look so forward to it. I look forward to being there just to let Eddie Murphy know how much we appreciate him. He changed the game for a lot of brothers in the game. He opened a lot of doors for us.
