MTV is turning to Elizabeth Norris for its next scripted drama.

The youth-skewing network home to Awkward and Teen Wolf has optioned the author's debut novel Unraveling, The Hollywood Reporter has learned exclusively.

The young-adult novel revolves around Janelle Tenner, who after being hit by a car, is convinced she died and that her sexy and mysterious classmate Ben is responsible for her miraculous resuscitation. As she searches for answers, Janelle discovers that Ben might be linked to an ongoing FBI investigation that has catastrophic consequences.

Are We Done Yet? co-producer Kevin Cornish is attached to executive produce the drama based on Norris' book. Unraveling was first published in April by HarperCollins' youth imprint Balzer + Bray -- the same shingle behind Candace Bushnell's The Carrie Diaries. The CW's adaptation of the book series following a young Carrie Bradshaw will debut midseason on the network.

Should the project move to series, it would join a roster of original scripted entries including Teen Wolf and Awkward, which were both renewed earlier this year for supersized third seasons.

Norris is repped by Fineprint Literary Management and Pouya Shahbazian. Cornish is with attorney Elsa Ramo.
