One day after dropping an F-bomb on Good Morning America, Tom Hanks returned to live TV, and this time he kept it clean.
The Oscar winner made a surprise appearance during Saturday Night Live’s cold open, which parodied the second presidential debate between President Barack Obama and GOP challenger Mitt Romney.
Hanks played a real-life debate questioner who said his question came from “a braintrust” of people at his work.

“This is a pretty good question,” Hanks bragged. “You’d better buckle your seatbelts, because this question is about to blow your mind.”
After fumbling with his piece of paper, taking his glasses off and putting them back on again, Hanks said simply “Libya” and sat down.
The candidates proceeded to argue over when Obama declared the attack on a U.S. consulate in Benghazi a terrorist attack.
“I am willing to bet you have never once in your life used the phrase terrorist act,” Romney (Jason Sudeikis) said. When moderator Candy Crowley confirmed Obama had actually used that phrase many times, Obama (Jay Pharoah) cockily dropped his microphone like a man who had just won a freestyle battle.

Hanks also made an appearance later in the episode to introduce musical guest Bruno Mars and to play a creepy amusement park employee.
