Stephen Colbert will reportedly make a cameo appearance in the upcoming Hobbit trilogy.
It’s not known whether the “Colbert Report” host will appear in the second or third film, nor has it been confirmed whether he has a speaking role.
His appearance will not come in the The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, the first installment, which is hitting theaters in December.
The “Colbert Report” host, a longtime fan of author J.R.R. Tolkien and The Lord of the Rings, had hinted at the news in a new Playboy interview, confirming that director Peter Jackson had invited him to the epic franchise’s set in New Zealand last year.

“I flew out and watched them shoot some scenes and went to some locations,” said Colbert, adding, “I saw a 25-minute cut, and it was amazing. Jackson knows I’m a big fan of the films.”
When the interviewer asked whether he was flown out just to watch or because he’d been hired for on-screen duties, Colbert smiled.
The TV personality was pressed, “Are you telling us you’re in the Hobbit movie?”
Colbert replied, “Could be.”
On Saturday, The Hollywood Reporter reported that the cameo is definite.
Jackson announced over the summer that would had been originally planned as two Hobbit films will be a full trilogy, with the next installments hitting theaters in December 2013 and July 2014.
