BOX OFFICEThe Expendables 2 is expected to hang on and win a weak, tightly packed box office this weekend.
Sylvester Stallone’s band of mostly aging action heroes should eke out $11.5 million or so, good enough to beat the estimated takes for The Bourne Legacy ($8.5 million) and ParaNorman ($7.5 million).
The box office gets muddled after that.
Holdovers such as The Dark Knight Rises ($6.5 million), The Campaign ($6.5 million) and The Odd Life of Timothy Green ($6.5 million) are all in the mix, in addition to Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s new bike messenger thriller Premium Rush ($6 million) and the right-wing documentary 2016: Obama’s America ($6 million).
Middle-aged romance Hope Springs ($5.5 million) and car chase comedy Hit and Run ($4 million) should round out the Top 10, ahead of Ashley Greene’s more limited new horror release The Apparition ($3 million).
