Last weekend, police officers shot and killed two men in the heavily Latino city that's also home to the Happiest Place on Earth. There have now been five officer-related civilian deaths in Anaheim since the year began, and residents are fighting back.
Saturday, July 21: Manuel Diaz is shot.
According to the Orange County Register, two patrol officers saw three men, including 25-year-old Diaz, standing near a car in an alley in the early evening. The men ran when officers tried to make contact, and one of the officers began shooting. Diaz, pictured with his daughter, was apparently a known gang member. He was unarmed at the time.

This video, sent to OC Weekly, shows Manuel Diaz lying on the grass, shot but still alive. A small crowd yells “He’s still alive, man!” and “Why did you have to shoot him in the head?” Diaz reportedly died hours later in the hospital.

That night, another Anaheim officer shoots and kills a man, Jose Acevedo (right), who was fleeing police in a reportedly stolen car with three other passengers. Shots were fired at the officers from the car and police took Acevedo down.
