Brian McKnight took not-so-veiled shots at Chris Brown, R. Kelly and Floyd Mayweather, Jr. in a Twitter rant on Saturday, sparking a fight with Brown and a flurry of debate.

The R&B singer has been taking flack for his recent excursion into sexually explicit lyrics and subject matter.

In response to the backlash, McKnight wrote a series of messages attempting to draw a distinction between his perceived missteps and the behavior of some other celebrities.

That’s when things got intense.

McKnight tweeted, “Since everyone’s so opinionated I’m taking suggestions on what I should do next I’m thinking rent a lambo and beat the s**t outta my girl… That’s acceptable these days.”

The apparent reference to Brown’s well-documented battery of Rihanna was not the end of McKnight’s commentary.

“Or maybe have sex with a 14 year old girl an film it that’s acceptable these days,” tweeted the singer, this time seeming to allude to R. Kelly’s past legal issues.

Then McKnight wrote, “Or let the court system let me make 35 million before I do my 87 days in a private cell for domestic abuse that’s acceptable these days.”

The last remark refers to Mayweather, who was allowed to take a big payday for a prizefight before being having to enter jail on Friday.

McKnight explained, “It’s not shade I’m just reminding all of us what we accept on a daily basis.”

He further added, “I meant no disrespect to anyone I was merely pointing out that In today’s society anything goes and WE Are all to blame the end.”

What followed was lengthy back-and-forth between the singer and his Twitter followers, before Brown himself chimed in with a response.

“I see how this works now,” wrote Brown. “When peoples careers get to the “nobody cares” stage they use my name for publicity! Lol.”

Brown continued, “I can’t keep helping these old n**gas. Its miracle the way I’m bringing the dead alive!”

He added, “I would’ve gladly wrote you something that would make u look less irrelevant!”

Brown then said of McKnight’s infamous song about women’s anatomy: “THAT S**T IS TRASH!”

So far, there’s been no response from McKnight.

Gossip Cop will have updates on the unexpected feud.
