Kathryn Joosten Dies at 72; Actress Known for Desperate Housewives and West Wing

Kathryn Joosten, the Emmy Award-winning actress best known for “Desperate Housewives” and “The West Wing,” has died.

She was 72.

Joosten, who began her Hollywood career later in life after working as a psychiatric nurse, had battled lung cancer for years.

She won Emmys for Outstanding Guest Actress in 2005 and 2008 for the role of Karen McCluskey on “Desperate Housewives.”

Joosten portrayed the President’s beloved secretary, Dolores Landingham, during the first two seasons of “The West Wing.”

She also had roles in shows like “My Name is Earl” and “Joan of Arcadia.”
