A relatively stable night for the broadcast networks also sees an even return for CBS' 'Criminal Minds.'
Empire led another Wednesday, albeit down the most in its live-plus-same day showing as another broadcast series for the night.
The Fox drama, which returned atop the heap last week, was off by six-tenths of a ratings point among adults 18-49. It averaged a 3.6 in the key demo. For Empire, that is hovering as close to the series low clocked last Thanksgiving eve as any episode since has come.
Like Designated Survivor on ABC, Lethal Weapon only dipped slightly from last week's debut. The Empire lead-in averaged a 1.9 rating in the key demo and just over 7 million viewers.
On ABC, The Goldbergs held the most steady with a 1.9 rating among adults 18-49. Black-ish dipped the most, dropping four-tenths of a point to a 1.6 rating. And, in the middle, Speechless (1.8 adults) was off by two-tenths of a point as Modern Family (2.3 adults) fell by three-tenths. Designated Survivor, which rose a full 1.5 ratings points in live-plus-three last week, was off four-tenths of a point in its second night-of showing. It averaged a 1.8 rating in the key demo, quite easily winning the 10 o'clock hour.
CBS offered up the premieres of Criminal Minds (1.8 adults) and Code Black (1.2 adults) on Wednesday. Each show matched its recent finale, but both were down from 2015 premieres. The duo followed Survivor, steady with a 2.1 rating among adults 18-49.
NBC had a steady Blindspot (1.2 adults), while Law & Order: SVU and Chicago PD both averaged a 1.5 rating among adults 18-49. For Chicago, that was on par with the premiere, while SVU dropped a tad from the premiere.
