The Stephen Falk critical scores an early renewal, after only four episodes of season three.

No surprise here: FXX has handed out an early renewal for keeping one of TV's most critically praised comedies.

The cable network announced Wednesday that it has renewed Stephen Falk's You're the Worst for a fourth season.

Starring Aya Cash, Chris Geere, Desmin Borges and Kether Donohue, the third season opened strong and delivered the show's most-watched telecast ever on FXX. Through its third episode, season three is up year-over-year among total viewers (13 percent, 590,000 total viewers) and even among adults under 50 (down 1 percent, 387,000 total viewers) when factoring in seven days of DVR.

“It is a daily thrill to have You’re the Worst in the same network family as Archer, Fargo, American Crime Story, The Americans, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Atlanta, Better Things, Louie, etc., and while I am currently deep in post on season three and so, so tired, you guys, I am overjoyed," said Falk, who has an overall deal with producers FX Productions and multiple other projects in the works for FX. "That FX mysteriously manages to have a crystalline brand identity with such a wide variety of shows is a testament to the extreme talents of John, Eric, Nick, Chuck, John, Nick, Matt, Nicole, Kevin, Kate, Jonathan, Barbara, Stephanie and everyone else. I realize I don’t need to kiss their asses because they've already picked up the next season, but it is heartfelt.”

Said Eric Schrier, president of original programming at FX Networks and FX Productions: "Expertly written, brilliantly acted, You’re the Worst continues to be hilarious and excellent We’re excited to get Stephen and his team working on next season and thank everyone at You’re the Worst for their outstanding work and the opportunity to keep producing great TV together."
The renewal for YTW comes after the comedy about two horrible people who wind up in a relationship together comes after the series has aired only four episodes. Episode five airs Wednesday at 10:30 p.m. on FXX. The comedy, which often finds humor in dark subjects including clinical depression and PTSD, is one of the best-reviewed shows of the year, with a Metacritic score of 85. Season four returns in 2017.
