‘SNL’ Taps Margot Robbie to Host Season Premiere

Saturday Night Live is gearing up for season 42.

Margot Robbie has been tapped to host the season premiere, it was announced Thursday.

The Weeknd will serve as musical guest for the Oct. 1 episode. This marks Robbie's first time hosting and The Weeknd's second turn as musical guest.

The actress is coming off of a busy summer, which included her turn as Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad as well as The Legend of Tarzan. The Weeknd is gearing up for the Nov. 25 release of his new album, Starboy.

SNL is coming off several cast changes, including the departures of longtime cast members Taran Killam and Jay Pharoah, both of whom have since booked Showtime pilots. Jon Rudnitsky also will not return after one season on the variety show.

This season's additions include Alex Moffat, Melissa Villasenor and writer-turned-performer Mikey Day. SNL also has two new head writers: Chris Kelly and Sarah Schneider. 

Season 42 of Saturday Night Live kicks off Saturday, Oct. 1, at 11:35 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
