JonBenet Ramsey Family Lawyer Plans to Sue CBS Over Documentary

The lawyer for JonBenét Ramsey's family said he plans to sue CBS over the claims about JonBenét's brother, Burke, in the network's recent documentary about the late pageant queen, Reuters reports.

"I will be filing a lawsuit on behalf of Burke Ramsey," L. Lin Wood told Reuters via phone on Tuesday, September 20. "CBS' false and unprofessional attacks on this young man are disgusting and revolting."

The network responded, stating that "CBS stands by the broadcast and will do so in court."

As previously reported, CBS released a two-part special, The Case Of: JonBenét Ramsey, to coincide with the 20th anniversary of her murder this year. The four-hour program featured investigators re-examining the case, which remains unsolved. The experts theorized during Monday night's episode that Burke most likely struck her on the head with a heavy object.

Burke, now 29, was just 9 when JonBenet, then 6, was found dead in the basement of the family's house in Boulder, Colorado, on December 26, 1996. He and his parents, John Burke and the late Patsy Burke, were initially considered suspects, but were later cleared by DNA.

Burke opened up about the case this month. He sat down for a three-part interview with Dr. Phil McGraw after keeping out of the spotlight for several years.

"There still are people that believe that you killed your sister. What do you say about that?” McGraw, 66, asked him.

“Look at the evidence or the lack thereof," Burke replied.

McGraw added: "Part of their rationale, these people say you are the only one that your parents would go to the lengths they went to to cover up everything that happened."

Burke held his ground. “I don’t know what to say to that because I know that’s not what happened," he said. "There’s been a few people that said that’s not even physically possible for a 9-year-old to do that.”
