Ali Caldwell performed “Dangerous Woman” for her Blind Audition on Monday’s season premiere of “The Voice,” and turned around all four chairs. Watch below!
The soulful performance showed Caldwell will be, dare we say, a dangerous force during season 11 of the NBC competition. And it was Adam Levine who first turned around, just before she hit the chorus. As she went on, the Maroon 5 rocker even got on his feet, and new coach Miley Cyrus noticed.
But it was Blake Shelton who pushed his button next. Cyrus eventually followed suit, and fellow newbie Alicia Keys made it a four-chair turn-around towards the end. Cyrus, Shelton and Levine also gave Caldwell a standing ovation as her family went nuts backstage. “Everyone in here loves you already,” Cyrus told the 28-year-old aspiring star.
Levine brought up the last two winners, Jordan Smith and Alisan Porter, saying, “I remember vividly where I was and what I was feeling when I turned around for those two people. Both of those people I said, ‘You guys are winning.’ I am so blown away — I’m not speechless because I won’t shut up.”
Shelton used that as his chance to interject, and point out how he previously won with Jermaine Paul, a former backup singer for Keys. “Sometimes, the right combination happens and sometimes it may not be the obvious thing, but it can be magic,” said the country superstar.
When it was Keys’ turn, she actually went up on stage to hug Caldwell, which sparked some tears. But Levine wasn’t giving up, and he got out of his seat, too. “You’re such a follower, Adam,” Keys cracked. It was Caldwell’s family who next took the stage, as Levine told her, “You are it… My entire season hinges on whether or not I have you on my team.” Cyrus even added, “I really feel like you could win this show, and this is just our first day.”
