‘Doubt’ Creators Renew Overall Deal at CBS TV Studios

'Grey's Anatomy' alums Tony Phelan and Joan Rater will remain at the studio through summer 2018.

CBS Television Studios are keeping Doubt creators Tony Phelan and Joan Rater on lockdown.

The married couple and writing partners have renewed their overall deal with CBS Television Studios through summer 2018, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Under the pact, Rater and Phelan will continue to showrun and exec produce CBS midseason drama Doubt as well as develop new projects for the studio.

The duo, who previously served as showrunners for the past three seasons of ABC's Grey's Anatomy, previously developed CBS' buzzy Nancy Drew reboot for CBSTVS. Despite a high-profile diverse take on the series (Sarah Shahi was set to star) CBS passed on the project.

Phelan and Rater next have Doubt due midseason at CBS. With the drama, which was redeveloped from last season with a number of new castings, the duo will reunite with Grey's alum Katherine Heigl. The series will make broadcast television history when it debuts as the legal drama features the first openly transgender series regular character played by a trans actress in Orange Is the New Black Emmy nominee Laverne Cox. The couple were inspired to create the character after being inspired by their trans son, Tom, and their shared experience.
