Kristen Stewart’s new movie, Personal Shopper, was expected to be released internationally later this year, but the film’s future is now uncertain since its distributor recently filed for bankruptcy.
The rights to the dramatic thriller, described as a ghost story set in the fashion underworld of Paris, were bought by U.K. distributor Metrodome Group shortly after the movie premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May. But last month, the indie film outfit went bankrupt, due to several of its low-budget projects struggling at the box office. However, it’s still expected Personal Shopper will screen at the New York Film Festival this October, having just played at the Toronto International Film Festival earlier this week.
It should also be noted, Metrodome only owns the U.K. rights to the film, so the movie’s planned December release in France and Belgium may not be affected. Meanwhile, IFC Films, which bought the film’s U.S. distribution rights, has yet to set a release date.
Although the future of Personal Shopper remains in limbo for some Stewart fans, the actress still has two other movies set for release later this year. She can next be seen in the dramas, Certain Woman and Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk, hitting theaters in October and November, respectively.
