North West’s friends are screened by Kim Kardashian and Kanye West? That’s the claim in one of this week’s tabloids. Gossip Cop can separate the fiction from the fact.
The current issue of the National Enquirer features the headline, “Kimye Auditioning Pals For Daughter!” The accompanying story asserts, “Cutie North West has parents, but she’s short on pals — and a desperate Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are screening kids for a ‘suitable’ circle of friends.” A so-called “spy” is quoted as saying, “North’s only friend is her cousin Penelope Disick — and while the two are best friends, Kim wants North to grow up with an extended group of lifelong friends she can trust.”
Mind you, she’s only 3 years old. Still, the supermarket tabloid goes on to claim that things have become complicated since Saint was born nearly a year ago, with North supposedly “acting out.” The alleged tipster explains, “The arrival of Saint has highlighted some selfish behaviors, and they figure the best thing is for her to learn how to share with other kids.”
“But North’s pals can’t be just anybody,” notes the outlet. Rather, the magazine’s snitch alleges Kardashian and West “have in their minds the type of friends they want for her. They have to come from like-minded, wealthy, well-educated families.”
First off, Gossip Cop has to question the motives and authenticity of any “spy” who would go to the tabloids with a story about the private life of a toddler. Kardashian and West may choose to put North in the spotlight from time to time, but she’s still a child. Gossip magazines needn’t be digging into the life of a 3-year-old.
But since the National Enquirer brought it up, Gossip Cop looked into these “screening” claims. Now Kardashian’s rep exclusively tells us it’s “false” that kids are “auditioning” to be North’s friends. The spokesperson further calls the story “absurd.”
It’s also worth noting, though, that even if the allegations were true, they wouldn’t be that outrageous. As anyone with a child can attest, it’s important to know the friends of your kids and their families. That’s just being safe and responsible.
