The Academy of Country Music’s ACM Honors is now in its 10th year. According to the organization, the event is “dedicated to celebrating special honorees and off-camera category winners from the 51st Academy of Country Music Awards.” This year’s festivities were held last week at the Ryman Auditorium, one of the most iconic venues in Nashville.
Lady Antebellum hosted the ceremony. Much like the ACMs themselves, the evening was a mix of concert performances and awards presentations. Those honored included Carrie Underwood (ACM Lifting Lives Gary Haber Award), Keith Urban (Mae Boren Axton Award), Glenn Campbell (Career Achievement Award), and Little Big Town (Crystal Milestone Award).
Two other notable awards went to Jason Aldean and Miranda Lambert. Aldean received the ACM Triple Crown Award, which is given to an artist who has won in the top three ACM categories: New Male/Female Vocalist of the Year, Male/Female Vocalist of the Year and Entertainer of the Year. Aldean is only the seventh artist to accomplish the feat.
Meanwhile, Lambert was the first-ever recipient of the ACM Merle Haggard Spirit Award. According to the Academy, the new honor is to be given to a “singer-songwriter and performer whose career reflects the uncompromising integrity and steadfastness of spirit embodied by the late Merle Haggard.” Lambert was chosen for her “uncompromising spirit.”
Now the two-hour broadcast of the ACM Honors will showcase a number of the award presentations, along with musical performances. Viewers will get to see Urban, Little Big Town, Alicia Keys, Toby Keith Kelsea Ballerini, Blake Shelton, Maren Morris, Dierks Bently, Luke Bryan, Cam, The Band Perry, Cole Swindell, Dan & Shay, and Chris Young.
