Suicide Squad won the box office for the third weekend in a row, despite a drastically decreased haul. At the same time, the DC Comics flick looked like a bonafide success compared to the massive bomb that is Ben-Hur. Read on for all the details about this week’s Top 10!
As Gossip Cop reported, Suicide Squad had a record-breaking opening earlier this month. But as many analysts predicted, the box office was front-loaded. All the superhero fans rushed to see the film during the first weekend, and bad reviews have largely kept other moviegoers away. Still, Suicide Squad hung on to first place with just $20.7 million, a mere fraction of its opening total three weeks ago.
Seth Rogen’s Sausage Party again took the number two spot, this time with $15.3 million. War Dogs, starring Jonah Hill and Miles Teller, came in third with $14.3 million. With ticket sales of $12.6 million, the new family film Kubo And The Two Strings underperformed, though it still landed at number four. And then there was Ben-Hur. The remake reportedly cost around $100 million to make, but opened to just $11.4 million to finish in fifth place.
Rounding out the Top 10 were Pete’s Dragon in sixth with receipts of $11.3 million, while Bad Moms nabbed seventh with $8 million. Jason Bourne secured eighth with $7.9 million, and The Secret Life Of Pets took the ninth spot with $5.7 million. Just making it into the Top 10 was Florence Foster Jenkins with $4.3 million.
