Liza Minnelli has not told Lady Gaga to “stop singing” the song “New York New York,” despite a new tabloid report. Gossip Cop can exclusively correct this feud claim. We’re told it’s entirely “not true.”
According to Life & Style, Minnelli is “beefing with Lady Gaga,” and her iconic 1977 hit “New York, New York” is at “the heart” of the squabble. A so-called “insider” tells the tabloid, “Liza’s tired of Gaga singing her song.” The supposed source for the publication alleges, “It infuriates Liza. She feels like she’s identified with ‘New York, New York’ and she hates that Gaga has tried to turn it her own signature song.”
The outlet further claims that when Lady Gaga “recently sang it with Tony Bennett, that was the last straw for Liza.” “Liza used to praise Gaga, but that’s all changed,” adds the tabloid’s “insider,” who curiously also contends, “Gaga thinks Liza needs to get over it.” So, the magazine would like us all to believe that its Minnelli “insider” is also a Lady Gaga confidante too?
None of this, however, is remotely accurate. Gossip Cop is told by Minnelli’s own rep that the publication’s article is off-key. Minnelli’s spokesman assures us the claim is “not true,” and that the legendary singer “adores Lady Gaga.”
