Aaron Paul is stepping behind the camera at NBC.
The three-time Emmy winner has sold a one-hour drama script to the network and Universal Television that he will exec produce, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Titled Blackmail, the project centers on a young married couple who a life-changing accident and decide to get back at the man responsible by threatening to reveal his infidelity to his fiancee. But when things turn out to be more sinister than the couple originally thought, a dark game of cat-and-mouse sets them on the path to knowing what it means to be a real-life power couple.
Brothers Thomas and John Sonntag will write the project, and exec produce with Paul. His Lucid Road shingle will produce in association with Universal Television, the studio behind the Hulu drama The Path in which Paul stars and produces. The actor is also an exec producer on the Netflix animated comedy BoJack Horseman. Paul is repped by UTA
The sale marks the Sonntag brothers' first television venture. They sold the film Warden to New Line and are developing the film CTRL with Amy Baer's Gidden Media. The Sonntags are repped by Mosaic and Jeff Frankel.
Although the 2016-17 TV season has yet to kick off, NBC already has several dramas in development. Oscar winner Paul Haggis and former Law & Order: SVU showrunner Warren Leight are also working on Salvation for the network, and Gideon Raff (Homeland, Tyrant) is developing an adaptation of the best-selling book Waking Lions.
