Michael Phelps won his 23rd, and possibly last ever, gold medal in the 4x100m medley relay at the Rio Olympics on Saturday. Watch below!
Phelps and his team mates came in first place in the race, which marked his last competition of the 2016 games. They also set an Olympic record with their time. As Gossip Cop has reported, he also won gold in the 4x100m freestyle relay last Sunday, and then again in the 200m butterfly, 4x200m freestyle relay, and the 200m individual medley. On Friday, Phelps won his first silver of this year’s Olympics in the 100m butterfly final.
He now holds five gold medals from six races in Rio, with a total of 23 golds over the course of his Olympic career. He also now has 28 Olympic medals overall. The big question, though, is whether this is the last we’ll see of Phelps in the sport.
It was speculated that Rio would mark Phelps’ final games, but Ryan Lochte said Friday he expects to see Phelps in the Tokyo Olympics in 2020. Not so, according to the most decorated Olympian of all time. Speaking with reporters after last night’s event, Phelps insisted, “Ryan doesn’t know what he is talking about. I am not coming back in four years.”
