“Suicide Squad” Wins Box Office For Second Weekend

Suicide Squad Box Office Second Weekend

(Warner Bros.)

Suicide Squad is winning the box office again, despite strong threats from two newcomers. But the victory isn’t entirely something to celebrate.

As Gossip Cop reported, the latest DC Comics movie had a record-breaking opening last week. The star-studded flick earned $133.7 million in its debut, making it the highest-grossing August opening of all time. But now for its second week, the film is dropping more than 60 percent and is projected to take in $44.million.

That’s still enough to hang on to the number one spot, but far from last week’s massive win. In fact, Sausage Party has been putting up a good fight and is looking at a $32.7 million second-place opening. That will make it the biggest debut for an animated R-rated film in history.

This weekend’s other new film, Pete’s Dragon, is likely to take third with a debut haul of $20.8 million. Matt Damon’s Jason Bourne could nab the fourth position with $13.1 million. Ticket sales of $11.4 million would put Bad Moms in the number five spot.

The Secret Life Of Pets will probably bring in $8.7 million to land in sixth, while following in seventh should be Star Trek Beyond with receipts of $6.8 million. Possibly rounding out the Top 10 are Florence Foster Jenkins ($6.1 million), Nine Lives ($3.5 million), and Lights Out ($3 million). All figures are currently estimates, and Gossip Cop will have updates.
