Fans are reacting after a video emerged of Johnny Depp and Amber Heard having a fight in their home. If so inclined, see the footage below.
The video was obtained by TMZ, which published the clip on Friday night. It shows Depp, unaware he’s being filmed, yelling and cursing in his kitchen. He slams cabinets and wine bottles, pours himself a big drink, and speaks in an angry tone with Heard. She, meanwhile, can be seen asking why he’s so upset, and trying to stop him from realizing she’s taping him. When he discovers, however, that she’s been recording the interaction, he aggressively goes after her and the footage becomes distorted before cutting off.
The incident is said to have taken place months before the alleged May assault that led Heard to file for divorce from Depp after 15 months of marriage. She subsequently accused him of physical and verbal abuse, and currently has a restraining order against him. The two remain in contentious divorce negotiations, with depositions and court hearings repeatedly getting postponed.
Depp’s camp reportedly maintains that the new video was a set-up by Heard, one in which she egged him on, and that the portion that was leaked was “heavily edited.” No matter, fans are now sounding off on the footage on Twitter, where Depp has becoming a trending topic both worldwide and in the United States. Most of the tweets are calling out the actor for his behavior.
@daintysound tweeted, “I’m scared for women who don’t see Johnny Depp’s behavior as abusive. This is what’s wrong with the way media portrays domestic abuse.” @daintysound said, “Johnny Depp is a scumbag. The video proves it all. He’s an alcoholic that needs help.” @DAISYRlDLYS stated, “people trying to defend johnny depp arts stupid as hell. you don’t know him. his characters are not who he his. grow up and support a woman.”
“are people SERIOUSLY defending johnny depp after that video???? that’s disgusting,” declared @aIanyewest. @boldandworthy also wrote, “Amber Heard risked her life recording Johnny Depp’s violence —and people still don’t believe her!! You are part of the problem.”
Others, however, are showing a more skeptical response. In fact, a few people are questioning whether it’s really Depp in the video. @_LaLas_Land, for instance, wrote to TMZ, “@TMZ not Johnny Depp. Why aren’t you seeing this? Also what’s with the camera from the 90s?” @ecol0gy posted a screengrab and asked, “@TMZ where’s Johnny Depp’s tattoo’s on his right hand?”
Meanwhile, @GodfreyElfwick argued, “How dare Johnny Depp get drunk in his own kitchen and then get pissed off when he realises he’s being filmed.” @KISSman posted, “Just saw that ‘shocking’ video of Johnny Depp beating the crap out of his kitchen cabinets while doing absolutely nothing to Amber Heard.” @LamarDARKside tweeted, “Johnny Depp threw glass at the floor and slammed a cabinet door and people are saying it’s proof of abuse. Abusing what the Hardwood???”
And @Jenni4Stars similarly said, “I just saw a video of Johnny Depp abusing his kitchen cabinets and Amber Heard secretly taping it. Domestic violence against his kitchen.” If so inclined, see the video in question below.
