Michael Phelps won gold in the Men’s 200-Meter Individual Medley at the 2016 Rio Olympics on Thursday, while Ryan Lochte failed to medal. Watch below!

The longtime friends and rivals competed against each other in the highly-anticipated event, along with swimmers from Japan, China, Great Britain, and Brazil. In their semifinal race on Wednesday, Phelps came out on top with Lochte right behind him. And at least for Phelps, that’s exactly what happened again now in the finals, making him the first in history to win the 200-meter freestyle at four consecutive summer Olympics.

For Rio, this is Phelps’ fourth gold so far. As Gossip Cop previously reported, Phelps won gold in the 200-meter butterfly on Tuesday, and that same night, he and Lochte came in first with their team mates for the 4x200m freestyle relay. His first gold of the games came on Sunday in the 4×100-meter freestyle relay. Overall, Phelps now holds 22 gold medals and 26 in general.

It’s a disappointing end for Lochte, though, who didn’t take the silver or bronze, as expected, and instead finished in fifth place. The two have previously faced off with Lochte getting silver in 2012 and 2004, while he took the bronze in 2008. Meanwhile, Phelps will be back in the pool in just 30 minutes for the men’s 100-meter butterfly semifinal, ahead of Friday night’s final. Gossip Cop will have full video of his race with Lochte momentarily, so stay tuned!
