Sal Valentinetti sang a new version of One Direction’s “Story Of My Life” on Tuesday’s “America’s Got Talent.” Watch below!

As Gossip Cop reported, the singer was one of just five acts to get a Golden Buzzer during the auditions for season 11. Valentinetti received the “AGT” Golden Buzzer advantage from Heidi Klum, who loved not only his crooning, but also his charming and flirtatious personality. That allowed him to skip over the Judge Cuts round and automatically get a slot in the live shows.

Now, nearly two months after his audition aired, the former “American Idol” contestant was finally back on stage, hoping to wow the judges again with a live performance at the Dolby Theatre. And instead of doing a throwback, he reinvented One Direction’s “Story Of My Life” in the style of an old-timey jazz song. The risky move led to a standing ovation from not just Klum, but Simon Cowell and Mel B, too.

Klum called Valentinetti her “golden boy,” and praised him for looking so “handsome.” But more importantly, she commended, “Your voice was super silky and smooth. You did it!” Cowell went as far as saying the contestant gave a final-worthy performance.

“You’re a showman. You’re like a singing pizza,” he said in a compliment that makes more sense than it initially seems. He further told Valentinetti, “You played to the crowd and you rose. Congratulations. You did amazing.” Of course, he also added, “And that’s a great song.”

Howie Mandel said, “You’re everything that everybody says you are,” but when he expressed that Valentinetti should stick to the standards, Cowell buzzed the comedian. And Valentinetti explained that he was simply trying to “bring two generations together.” Check out the full video below!
