Snoop Dogg is headed to television.

The rapper — and weed aficionado — will make an appearance in MTV's upcoming pot comedy Mary + Jane. The news was revealed by the show's executive producers Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont at a panel for the series at the Television Critics Association press tour on Sunday morning.

The pair acknowledged that Snoop doesn't play himself but instead "a very, very special person" in the half-hour that sees stars Jessica Rothe and Scout Durwood play two twenty-something best friends who run an all-female marijuana delivery service in Los Angeles. Kaplan added: "You don't know when he's going to appear. You have to watch all the way to an end to see him."

In addition to guesting on the show, it was also announced that Snoop had joined the series as a executive producer (along with Entertainment 360's Guymon Casady, Marcus Blakely and Jill McElroy), in addition to performing the theme song for the comedy. The exec producers promised other celebrity cameos throughout the season. Among them: Seth Green, Leonard Roberts, Andy Daly and Missi Pyle.

And the show's creative team is hoping for even more cameos, should MTV order a second season. "We're hoping that going forward, people who are weed-friendly and comedy-friendly will see the show, get excited about it and just want to come out and play," said Kaplan.

Mary + Jane premieres Sept. 5 at 10 p.m. on MTV.
