Amazon is moving forward with The Last Tycoon.

The streaming service has picked up the drama starring Matt Bomer and Kelsey Grammer to series, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

Based on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s final unfinished novel, The Last Tycoon is inspired by the life of film mogul Irving Thalberg.

The series revolves around Monroe Stahr (Bomer, Magic Mike, American Horror Story), Hollywood’s first high-profile studio executive in the 1930s as he climbs to the height of power pitting him against his mentor and current head of the studio, the brawny, imposing, charming and vain Pat Brady (Grammer). Brady's character is based on Hollywood icon Louis B. Mayer. Having come from the streets, Brady has no intention of returning to his misfortune, and is determined to make sure his studio is successful, no matter what personal morals he compromises.

Rosemarie DeWitt co-stars as Brady's wife, Rose, who may be involved with Stahr.

The drama hails from Sony Pictures Television and its recently relaunched TriStar Television banner. Billy Ray serves as showrunner alongside Chris Keyser.

For Sony, this marks the independent studio's second TriStar series at Amazon and joins Good Girls Revolt.
