Sarah Silverman’s Twitter account was hacked on Wednesday by a person who posted a link to an anti-Hillary Clinton video and a hashtag suggesting the Democratic presidential nominee should be in prison. See the screenshots below.
A tweet on Silverman’s official page read, “America, are you awakening?” along with a nearly five-minute YouTube video featuring the hacker group, Anonymous, accusing Clinton of criminal activity. The tweet also said #Hillary4Prison and #Anonymous, however it isn’t clear if the infamous “hacktivist” group was actually behind the infiltration.
Shortly after the tweet went up, Silverman got back access to her account and wrote in all caps: “MY TWITTER ACCT GOT HACKED THIS IS NOT ME.” The comedienne was an outspoken Bernie Sanders supporter during his presidential bid, however she delivered a pro-Clinton speech during the first night of the Democratic National Convention on Monday.
Silverman said from the podium, “Can I just say, to the Bernie or Bust people: You’re being ridiculous.” She added, “This past year, I’ve been feeling the Bern,” before joking, “Relax, I put some cream on it.” But the comedienne went on to advocate for harmony within the party, saying, “I will vote for Hillary with gusto, as I continue to be inspired and moved to action by the ideals set forth by Bernie, who will never stop fighting for us.”
