Taylor Swift was not “snubbed” by the MTV Video Music Awards, which announced its nominations on Tuesday. Gossip Cop can correct this inaccurate report.
According to Us Weekly, “MTV had a blank space, but didn’t write Taylor Swift’s name.” The outlet noted how Beyonce received a career-high of 11 nominations, and Adele scored seven of her own, but pointed out that “Swift was not on the list.” The publication wrote on its website that Swift “received zero nominations, a surprising turn of events for the 26-year-old singer, who led the pack of honorees at last year’s ceremony with 10 nominations for ‘Bad Blood.'”
But Swift was not “snubbed” at all. The singing superstar was on tour for the vast part of last year, and not putting out new songs. Additionally, it seems Swift’s team never submitted the handful of videos that still trickled out at the end of 2015 since she never planned on attending this year’s ceremony.
As Gossip Cop reported, last year Swift had the most nominations and was the 2015 MTV VMAs big winner, walking away with “Video of the Year” for “Bad Blood,” “Best Female Video” for “Blank Space,” and “Best Pop Video” for “Blank Space.” Additionally, she opened the 2015 show with Nicki Minaj and handed Kanye West his “Video Vanguard Award.” Swift, who’s been open about taking this year off from work, will noticeably be absent from this year’s Video Music Awards at Madison Square Garden in New York on August 28, but she most assuredly was not “snubbed.”
