In Touch has spent the last few months insisting Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are getting divorced. This week, however, the magazine flip-flopped. Gossip Cop can expose what’s really going on.

The headline in the newest issue reads, “The Divorce Is Off.” The sub-headline spouts, “Quality time with the kids helps Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie save their marriage.” And the accompanying story states, “After months of increasing tensions led Brad and Angelina to grow so distant that they were headed for divorce, the couple of 11 years has now put the brakes on their impending split and breathed new life into their two year marriage.”

“The kids saved the marriage,” a so-called “insider” is quoted as saying. “This was a couple that was on the brink of divorce just a few weeks ago. But over the course of the week surrounding the Fourth of July, Brad and Angie fell back in love.”

Not quite. Here’s what’s actually going on: Pitt and Jolie were spotted looking happy together several times over the last few weeks, which goes directly against the divorce narrative In Touch has created. The couple was never splitting, of course, but now that everyone can see that, the magazine had to change course.

But because drama sells better for tabloids than happiness, the outlet was sure to end its piece by hinting that there may still be trouble to come for the couple. The supposed “insider” says, “Even though Brad and Angelina have come to a place of great understanding, they still have a long way to go to overcome their many problems. They’ve taken a very positive step toward a future together and making their marriage better, but there’s still a lot to work through.”

So Gossip Cop won’t be surprised in the least when the magazine starts churning out made-up Jolie-Pitt divorce stories again. The tabloid has also taken a wishy-washy approach to another celebrity couple. Last month, we called out In Touch for flip-flopping on Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner’s divorce.
