Series creator Matt Groening also revealed that he'd love to revisit 'Futurama.'
The Simpsons continues to make history as the longest-running scripted television series hits the incredible milestone of 600 episodes in its upcoming season.
The Fox animated series returns for season 27 in the fall, and during the show's Comic-Con panel Saturday, executive producer Al Jean revealed that the landmark 600th episode — airing Oct. 16 — will be it's annual Halloween-themed "Treehouse of Horror 27."
"At the beginning of the episode, we have a Hunger Games parody," Jean said. "You may see Maggie dressed up covered in guns. Guest stars in that episode are Sarah Silverman, Drew Carey and Kelsey Grammer."
But that wasn't the only announcement he had to make to kick off the panel.
Jean also revealed a roster of guest stars set to return this season including Patton Oswalt, Doris Kearns Goodwin, Allison Janney, the stars of Showtime's Master of Sex, Matt Leinart and world-chess champion Magnus Carlsen.
Later during the panel, a fan asked Simpsons creator Matt Groening if he would ever bring fan-favorite series Futurama back (again).
"Futurama lives in pod form," Groening said as the room erupted in applause and cheers. "You know, many people who were involved on that show are here [at Comic-Con] today. We'd love to bring Futurama back. We would love to do it and perhaps we'll do it someday."
Other highlights from the panel:
- "We have an episode coming up that I'm really excited about and I hope you will be too," executive producer Matt Selman said. "It's a travel show where the Simpsons go to Boston and we really take it to the city. Doris Kearns Goodwin, guys. That's the connection."
- Will there ever be another crossover with Family Guy or American Dad or even Futurama? "We were really happy with all of them but part of the reason why we were so happy was because it was a one time thing," Jean said. "But I don't know. I don't know if we could capture that magic again. We really don't want to repeat ourselves." But then Selman added, "We're all really big fans of Bob's Burgers. But I don't know if those two shows fit together well. Maybe there's a way. But I don't know if that would be possible. But that show is great." And Groening revealed that they have a "kind-of crossover" coming up with Adventure Time.
- Nancy Cartwright, voice of Bart Simpson, loves to go "full Bart" on unsuspecting kids who don't know that the person behind the young boy character is actually female. But her favorite fake-out was with a grown man. "I stood next to a guy at Buckingham Palace, one of the guys with the tall, bear skin hats," Cartwright said. "I went, 'What's happening, man?' Instantly his knees buckled, bam! He went down. It worked. It was awesome."
- Jean revealed that while they've tried to get multiple different presidents to guest star on the show, no one has agreed. Ronald Reagan did send a nice rejection letter to them.
