The third season of The CW unscripted series will premiere this summer.
Alyson Hannigan has a surprising trick up her sleeve for her next act.
The How I Met Your Mother and Buffy the Vampire Slayer alum has signed on to host Penn & Teller: Fool Us, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Hannigan replaces British TV personality Jonathan Ross for the upcoming third season of the show, which is set to premiere sometime this summer on The CW. The magic competition series challenges magicians to try to trick famed duo Penn Jillette and Teller. If the two cannot figure out how the act was done, the contestant wins a trip to Las Vegas to open for them.
This is one of Hannigan's first TV gigs since How I Met Your Mother wrapped in 2014, and her biggest commitment following the nine-year comedy. Her other appearances include a guest role on CBS' The McCarthys and appearances on NBC's Hollywood Game Night. She is repped by APA and McKuin Frankel.
"My oldest daughter and I are huge fans of the show, so I am so excited to be hosting a program our whole family can watch together," said Hannigan. "Not to mention, Penn & Teller are genius entertainers, so any opportunity to work with them is amazing. And, of course, I’ve always wanted to play Vegas!”
Added Jillette: “Teller and I are big fans of Alyson. She is talented, smart and funny. We are so happy that she’s joining us as host this season. She has promised us that she loves magic and can’t get enough. She’d better not be bluffing, because we’re going to give her more than enough.”
Peter Adam Golden, Andrew Golder, David Green and Peter Davey executive produce the hourlong series, which hails from 117 Productions and September Films for ITV.
