NBC's new series, airing after 'The Voice' at 9 p.m., has a comparatively modest sampling before its official debut.

With The Voice behind it and a 9 p.m. roost for its preview episode, Heartbeat could have given a stronger showing for its preview episode.

The delayed drama, pushed from a fall opener due to star Melissa George's pregnancy, averaged a 1.4 rating among adults 18-49 on Tuesday night — losing a full point of its Voice lead-in (admittedly humbled compared to last week with a 2.4 adults rating). Among total viewers, Heartbeat averaged 6.3 million. It's not a bad showing for a midseason premiere, though it is soft in comparison to NBC's recent post-Voice launches.

CBS saw a steady NCIS (2.0 adults) followed by a lifted NCIS: New Orleans. The latter was up two-tenths of a point for a 1.8 rating among adults 18-49, while Limitless (1.3 adults) improved by the same amount.

ABC had steady outings of Fresh off the Boat (1.2 adults), The Real O'Neals (1.0 adults) and Agents of SHIELD (0.9 adults). Beyond the Tank slipped into Of Kings and Prophets' shortlived time slot, pulling just a 0.6 rating in the key demo.

The Flash returned to the CW down nearly 25 percent from its last showing, averaging a 1.1 rating among adults 18-49. iZomvie pulled a steady 0.5 rating in the key demo.

New Girl, Fox's lone original for the night, averaged a steady 1.0 rating among adults 18-49.
