The spot will debut on "Mega Tuesday," which features multiple primary elections, and air on NBC's news platforms as well as Fox News and CNN.
NBC is taking advantage of the heated race for the White House to drum up excitement for the 2016 Summer Olympics.
The network is set to unveil a new commercial Tuesday, as seen above, that positions the games as a way to bring the country together in the wake of the arguably divisive presidential election. The spot features emotional shots of memorable Team USA gold medalists like Michael Phelps, Gabby Douglas and Kerri Walsh Jennings as they bask in the glory of victory. The tagline for the new ad reads, "For 17 days, we are all united."
The spot's debut coincides with coverage of what the media has dubbed "Mega Tuesday," in which GOP primary elections will take place in Ohio and Florida, while Democratic voters will place their primary votes in Ohio, Florida and Illinois. Fittingly, NBC will roll out the new promo across its news platforms, including on MSNBC's Morning Joe and CNBC's Squawk Box, as well as cable news rivals such as Fox News and CNN.
“The Olympics have a unique ability to unify communities, nations, and the world. For 17 days in August, our country will come together to support Team USA," NBC Olympics CMO John Miller said. "This spot captures the Games’ ability to evoke patriotism by pinpointing one of the most poignant moments in an Olympic athlete’s life, the playing of the Star-Spangled Banner following a gold medal performance. In an election year, we think this message of unity around Team USA could not be more timely.”
The 2016 Summer Olympics kick off in Rio on Aug. 5, less than two weeks after the Democratic National Convention and three weeks following the Republican National Convention. The Games, which will air on NBC, run through Aug. 21.
