American Gothic is adding a spellbinding new series regular.

Elliot Knight, best known for playing Merlin on Once Upon a Time, has joined CBS' murder mystery drama, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

American Gothic follows a prominent Boston family attempting to redefine itself in the wake of a chilling discovery that ties their recently deceased patriarch to a string of murders spanning decades, amid mounting suspicion that one of them may have been his accomplice.

Knight will play Brady. Solid and honest with a touch of cynicism, he is happily married to Tessa (Megan Ketch), the youngest daughter of a prominent Boston family. A cop who's just been promoted to detective, Brady is starting work on a cold case that's suddenly had new evidence brought to light. A good man and a good detective, Brady is puzzled and a bit alarmed when Tessa seems to have some important information that she feels she can't tell him.

Knight joins a cast that also includes Justin Chatwin, Antony Starr, Juliet Rylance, Stephanie Leonidas, Gabriel Bateman and Virginia Madsen.

The project hails from writer Corinne Brinkerhoff (The Good Wife), who will executive produce alongside Amblin's Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank (The AmericansUnder the DomeExtant), James Frey and Todd Cohen. Fellow Good Wife grad Matt Shakman is set to direct the pilot.

American Gothic is one of two new series coming to CBS this summer – the other being the comic-thriller BrainDead from The Good Wife creators Robert and Michelle King.

Knight's other credits include the title role in the Sky TV/Syfy series Sinbad and How to Get Away With Murder. He is repped by ICM Partners, Affirmative Entertainment and Payne Management.
